The recipe for fun? A lot of dirt. Add water. Combine it with bold drivers, monster rigs and a case or 4 of Bud Lite and you’re rollin’.
(Note: Don’t forget the excavator for when you’re no longer rollin’, stuck in knee-high mud. Otherwise that bog will become a parking lot.)
After mistiming a mud bog gathering outside of Tampa recently, I still had 4×4-ing on my mind. Fellow Portland photog Chris Ryan was invited to a friend’s property (another Chris) on the Oregon Coast for
“The 2nd annual Mudneck Fest” and was thoughtful enough to bring me in tow.
The best moments came when folks got stuck. And were rescued. And tried again. And had to be rescued again. These drivers were determined to prove their trucks were Built Ford Tough. (Or were they driving Toyotas?) Anyway, you get my point…
The owner of the property, Chris, wrote me afterwards: “I love seeing guys trash the only cars they have. That’s the definition of a ‘Mudneck’ I guess.”
Thanks again to Chris (above) and all his friends also named Chris for letting me hang out, bum a couple beers and make some photos. Good clean fun.
