So, about a half-hour after the Canadian women beat the Americans for the gold medal in hockey – and after the fans had completely emptied the arena – I’m in the pressroom downloading images. A reporter walks up casually and says to his photographer sitting next to me, “I bet you have enough photos of the Canadians celebrating, but they’re back on the ice partying.” The photographer shrugs and says something like, “Thanks, I’ll pass.”
Huh? You’re passing on a real Olympic moment not staged by NBC AKA CTV?
Doing my best Pietsch impersonation, I grabbed my gear and hustled back to the ice. Sure enough, there were about a dozen players drinking and smoking cigars on the ice. In the past few hours, it’s turned into a bit of a news story.
There were about 8-12 photographers there catching the scene, while the rest were filing images from the game. Too bad. They missed a funny party, eh.
